Provenance: Partially faded pencil inscription: Presenter's note, dated March 2, 18(?)6. Condition: GOOD. Embossed board cover shows some spotting, gold filigree on spine is partially worn off. Moderate foxing on titlepages, lighter inside. Lucy Goodale Thurston and her husband Asa were early Protestant missionaries to the Sandwich Islands in the 1820s. At the request of King Kamehameha II, they established a missionary station in the King's residence in Kailua. They later came to Honolulu to translate and teach the Bible to the Native Hawaiians.
