Residence in Honolulu. 9.2 x 6.6 inches. Albumen photo by Chase, circa 1880s. --- Henry L. Chase (active 1862-1888) was a photographer and ambrotypist who shot various subjects around the Hawaii, including landscape views, architecture and portraits of Hawaiian royalty. Albumen hand-printing, invented in 1850, was the most popular form of photographic printing from the 1860s to 1890s. It used the albumen found in egg whites to bind the photographic chemicals to the paper, and silver nitrate to produce images by exposure to light.
