Hoku Ao Nani Songbook - Lorenzo Lyons Biglow & Main, New York, 1881. Lorenzo Lyons and the Hawaiian Evangelical Association. Cloth and board hardcover, 304 pages. Language: Hawaiian. Condition: GOOD. Cover shows damage around edges; spine has some moisture damage. Back cover is in better condition than front cover. Some pages inside dampstained, the rest intact, in good condition. Binding is loosened. A rare collection of beloved hymns, translated into the Hawaiian language by Lorenzo Lyons, who also went by the name of "Makua Laiana." Ordained as a Congregationalist minister at Auburn Seminary, Lyons arrived in Hawaii in 1832 and spent the remainder of his life dedicated to the native Hawaiians. He was fluent in the Hawaiian language and composed many poems and hymns. Lyons' best-known work is the Hawaiian National Anthem, "Hawaii Aloha."
