This important regional monograph is based on the ornithological exploration of sailor Henry Palmer who was sent to the Hawaiian Islands by British zoologist Lionel Henry Rothschild, from 1890 to 1893. During this time, Palmer collected 1,832 specimens, many of which are now extinct. Each of these hand-colored lithographic plates are by John Gould Keulemans and Frederick William Frohawk and are highly regarded for being both anatomically correct and aesthetically striking. Each of these plates, which have been archivally matted and are ready for framing, are from the collection of John Dominis Holt, noted author of books on Hawaiian culture and history.
