Fine 1830s Kou Wood Maui Style Bowl ex. Irving Jenkins Collection A fine old Native Hawaiian kou wood poi bowl, or "umeki poi," probably lathe-turned, and displaying the geometric planes distinctive to the style used for a short period on Maui. Measurements: 8 1/2" diameter at mouth, 3" height. 3/16" wide lip. Weighs 11.4 oz. Provenance: From the personal collection of Hawaii-born scholar, artist and appraiser Irving Jenkins, author of "The Hawaiian Calabash" (1989, University of Hawaii Press) and touring appraiser for Antiques Roadshow on PBS.
