This important ornithological study of "Loxops Coccinea, Loxops Flammea" from "Aves Hawaiienses" by Wilson and Evans, 1890-99, was illustrated by Frederick William Frohawk. This life-like portrayal is even more remarkable considering he worked exclusively from skins and stuffed specimens. Many of Hawaii's birds are extinct or endangered and this I'iwi although locally abundant is declining on Oahu and Molokai.
