About Primo Beer:
The Honolulu Brewing & Malting Company was formed in 1897 by Honolulu industrialist Alfred Hocking, and launched the Primo Lager brand in 1901. Although operations were halted due to Prohibition from 1920 to 1933, the brand came back with more popularity than ever under the ownership of Hawaii Brewing Corporation in 1933. After going through a series of owners, Pabst Brewing Company decided to bring back the Primo brand in 2007, and revitalized its distribution and marketing, making it an icon of the Hawaiian Islands. The Primo Lager sold in Hawaii is produced on the island of on Kauai at the Keoki Brewing Company, which still adds sugar cane to each batch. Portions of the island-based proceeds go to the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation and toward preserving Hawaiian culture, land and heritage.
