Fine 1830s Kou Wood Maui Style Bowl ex. Irving Jenkins Collection
A fine old Native Hawaiian kou wood poi bowl, or “umeki poi,” probably lathe-turned, and displaying the geometric planes distinctive to the style used for a short period on Maui.
Initials are carved into the bottom of this bowl, possibly “CKB”.
Measurements:6 3/4″ diameter at mouth, 3 1/2″ height. 1/4″ wide lip. Weighs 10.4 oz.
