Lucy Goodale Thurston and her husband Asa were early Protestant missionaries to the Sandwich Islands in the 1820s. At the request of King Kamehameha II, they established a missionary station in the King’s residence in Kailua. They later came to Honolulu to translate and teach the Bible to the Native Hawaiians.
